Visual Phonics

TGIF!

I'm dropping in to share a favorite phonics freebie
I have had success using with my first graders:

For every phonics sound/spelling (we  mostly follow Open Court's scope and sequence),
I use self-checking picture/text cards with my small groups. I have my students
apply their new skills to read the text word  and then they use the picture
to check their work ("Does it look right?"  "Does it sound right?"
"Does it make sense?")

I simply cover the pictures with sticky notes (or even your hand).

Please click here to read more and pick up your own set of
"Read It! Check It!" cards for Long E.  Please leave a comment if
you have any great tips to share or have any questions.

Thanks for reading!
